Trouble Connecting Google Analytics Profile
If you're having trouble connecting Google Analytics to Moz Pro this can sometimes be caused by a browser issue, like a conflicting plugin or by being logged into multiple Google accounts. We've got some troubleshooting steps you can try.
- Log out of all Google accounts and then only log into the Moz and Google accounts you want to connect
- Open a fresh incognito window in your browser and repeat the connection process
- Revoke other apps from your Google account to free up a Google token
If you're able to connect your Google Analytics account but you're not seeing the profile you want to connect try refreshing the browser which can help change the profiles showing up.
Solve a Lost GA Connection
If you receive a notification that we lost connection to your Google Analytics account you'll need to revoke the old token and request a new one. Here are the steps:
- Check you are an administrator on your Google Analytics account
- Make sure you are completely logged out of all Gmail/Google accounts
- Follow this link: https://accounts.google.com/issuedauthsubtokens. You'll be prompted to log into your Google Analytics account
- Revoke the token for Moz
- In your Moz Campaign Settings, click the little pencil icon and Disconnect, and then reconnect through the Connect another GA Account link, and select the profile you want to connect
Please note: It can take a few attempts to reconnect, refreshing the page can help. Also note that in some cases it can take a day or two for a reconnection to succeed, if it's not successfully reconnecting right away, please come back tomorrow and try again.
If you are still stuck, it can help to repeat the steps above in a fresh incognito window or private browser session.
Historical Data Warning
When editing, reconnecting, or disconnecting your Google Analytics connection within your Moz Pro Campaign, you will see the message Are you sure you want to change this Google Analytics account? All historical data for this Google Analytics account will be lost.
This warning is only in reference to the historical traffic data which has been imported into your Moz Pro Campaign. The data within your Google Analytics account itself will remain unaffected and will still be accessible via Google Analytics. Additionally, after clicking Yes, you will have the option to cancel out of the update process without impacting your historical traffic data should you change your mind.
Historical data within your Campaign will be impacted by changes to your Google Analytics connection if you are performing one of the following updates:
Changing the connected Account (i.e. the name of the account in Google Analytics)
Changing the connected Profile (i.e. GA4 code)
Connecting an all new Google Analytics account
Disconnecting your Google Analytics account all together
If you reconnect the same Google Analytics Account and Profile, your historical data should not be impacted.
If you would like to export a record of your Traffic from Search data prior to making any changes, you can export this section to CSV or PDF. You also have the option to export past Custom Reports, should you need to.
Why Did My Token Become Invalid?
When you connect GA and Moz Pro we are given a Google Analytics authorization token so we can pull your data into your Campaigns. Sometimes these tokens can become invalid.
Google goes through a process called Oauth when it comes to authorizing access to the services that are linked to your Google account. Under any single Google account, tokens are used to provide access to a bunch of different services, from Gmail to the apps on your phone. Google has a 25 token limit for each account, which means you can have up to 100 profiles in a single account, but will only be able to connect 25 of them to other services in total. A token can also be revoked if you change your Google password.
The account I want to connect isn't listed in the drop-down
If the account you want to connect to your Moz Pro Campaign isn’t an option in the drop-down, it could mean that the overarching Google Analytics account associated with your account/profile combination isn’t connected to Moz.
To connect another Google Analytics (GA) account to your Moz account, click Connect another GA account from the connection module. You can do this during Campaign creation:

If you are still not seeing the correct account and profile listed, we recommend attempting to connect via an incognito browser window.
What if I’m still not seeing the correct Account and Profile in the connector?
If, after following the steps to Connect another GA account, you’re still not seeing the account and profile listed in the connector in Moz, please follow the below steps.
- Refresh your browser
- Perform a hard refresh of your browser
- Log out of all Google accounts and then log into the Moz and Google accounts you want to connect
- Open a fresh incognito window in your browser and repeat the connection process
- Revoke other apps from your Google account to free up a Google token
I’ve connected GA but I’m not seeing data
If you have connected Google Analytics to your Campaign but you are still not seeing data, you can use the following steps to verify that everything is set up correctly for pulling that data.
1. Verify that your Google Analytics account was not connected between weekly Campaign updates.
If you have just connected GA to a Campaign or have updated the connected account and profile, you will not see data until your next weekly Campaign update. Any time changes are made to your Campaign between weekly Campaign updates (i.e. adding/removing keywords or updating your GA connection) those changes will not take full effect until the next weekly update. You can verify when your Campaign is set to update next in your Dashboard below any of the available modules.
2. Verify that the correct Account is selected
If you have multiple accounts connected to your overarching Google Analytics account, you will want to verify that you have the correct account selected in the Traffic tab of your Campaign Settings. This is particularly important if you have multiple account views with the same or similar name designations within your account.
To verify the correct account is selected you can click the pencil icon to edit your connection. This will populate a view with the account name shown.
3. Verify that the correct Profile is selected
If you have multiple Profiles within the selected Google Analytics account, you will need to verify that you have the correct GA4 code and profile view selected. You can see the selected code within the Traffic tab of your Campaign Settings. To verify the profile view selected is the correct one (in case you have multiple profiles for the same code) you can click the pencil icon to edit your connection. This will populate a view with the profile name shown.
If you’re not sure which code is embedded on your site, you can either search the source code of your homepage or use an extension like Google Tag Assistant to locate that information.
4. Verify that your GA account is showing data for the selected Account and Profile
If your GA account is also not showing data for the selected account and profile, this may be the sign of a larger problem that should be investigated.
5. If you’re seeing some data but it is not matching, please visit our Traffic Search Not Matching Google Analytics guide.
6. If you’re seeing no data or you’re seeing 0 visits populated in your Site Traffic graph, your token may have expired causing us to lose connection to your GA account- please see above for how to reset your token.
If you have checked all of these issues and are still not seeing data or the data you’re seeing does not match the data you’re seeing in GA, please email help@moz.proxybugs.com with the following information.
- The name of the Campaign not showing data or showing incorrect data

I added a new account in GA but it’s not an option to select
If you’ve added a new account to your overarching Google Analytics (GA) account but it’s not showing up as an option to select in Moz Pro, this means that it was added after the most recent authentication of the connection between Moz and GA. To re-authenticate your connection:
- Open an incognito browser and head to moz.proxybugs.com
- During Campaign creation or from your Traffic tab in Campaign Settings, click Connect another GA account
- Follow the login prompts and log into the same Google Analytics account you already have connected to Moz.
This should authenticate the connection again so that an updated list of account options populates in the Traffic connection modules.
